Completion of 1,500 hours of Basic Cosmetology instruction.

Course Description
The primary objective of this course is to refresh the knowledge and techniques of those who have failed the Illinois Cosmetology licensure examination three times or have allowed their license to expire and have not lawfully practiced cosmetology within the last five years.  It is a requirement for these individuals if they wish to obtain or restore their Illinois cosmetology license.

Course Goals
1.    To help students regain the theoretical and practical knowledge required to pass the Illinois Cosmetology licensure examination and to work as licensed beauticians in salons.
2.    To enable students to understand updated theoretical concepts and practical techniques which may not have been taught to them previously.

Course Format
1.    Theory lectures
2.    Oral quizzes
3.    Final refresher examinations (practical and theory)

Required Level of Achievement
    Brush-up students will be evaluated after 50 hours, and at 50-hour intervals, and are required to maintain a minimum of a 70% grade point average in theory and practical areas of study. In addition, a minimum score of 85% must be attained on both the written and practical final examinations. Please refer to the cosmetology course outline for details regarding grading scale, attendance rules and probation.

Graduation Requirements
1.    completion of 250 hours of coursework
2.    passing scores on both theory and practical final exams
3.    payment in full of tuition
4.    An official transcript will be issued to the student upon course completion.
